Clinical Supervision
Supervision, like therapy, is grounded in the quality of the relationship. You should feel comfortable enough with your supervisor to discuss challenges, uncertainty, and clinical vulnerabilities in order to grow professionally and ethically.
Be sure your supervisor is approved by the state Board of Examiners and is transparent about their credentials and qualifications. Do not hesitate to ask for credentialing information or references. Approval by the state is required, but it does not automatically guarantee skill as a supervisor.
Experience in the field, depth of clinical training, familiarity with specific populations, and a genuine investment in developing other clinicians all shape the quality of supervision. Effective supervision should challenge you, support you, and strengthen both your clinical judgment and professional confidence.
